Plan Description

This Beginner Olympic Distance plan is geared towards those doing their first olympic distance triathlon (1500 meter swim, 25 mile bike, 10k run). The plan assumes that athletes have previously trained for and completed a sprint distance triathlon. As such, this is not suitable for athletes doing their very first triathlon as an olympic triathlon. (We recommend a novice plan for that.)

This plan includes 2-3 swim workouts each week, with options for open water swimming, 3-4 run workouts each week, 3 bike sessions each week (with an occasional 4th session that is bike handling focused). The plan also includes transition workouts, and functional strength (core-focused). The plan begins with 2 weeks of testing to set up your HR zones for bike and run.

**Note: Because swim pacing is variable, swim workouts are set up using yards (can be done as meters as well). As such, the total duration (in hh:mm) does not include swim duration.

Before starting this plan, you should be able to:
- swim a minimum of 800 yards, with 2 swim sessions/week
- Bike at least 2-3 times/week, with ~30-45 minutes per session
- run 3 times per week, for 30-45 min each session
- exercise for at least 3-4 hours/week

This plan was created by a USA Triathlon Level 3 certified coach with 15 years of coaching experience, and an athletic history that includes 10x 140.6 finishes, including 4 finishes at IMLP, and finishing the World Championships in Kona.
