Plan Description

A customized plan to get you to the finish line of UTMB and run your best race possible! This plan is also well suited for TDS and other UTMB World Series Races such as Val d'Aran, Trail Verbier, Andora, Eiger, Snowdonia, Canyons, and others.

I am a certified running and ultrarunning coach, and I am an experienced mountain and ultra runner. I have finished UTMB four times (28 hours, 63rd, and top 3 American man), and I have coached dozens of runners to success at UTMB Series races.


The Intermediate plan is distance based, starting at 35-40 miles / 55-60km per week and assuming previous experience running that volume. Training volume peaks at 60-65 miles / ~100km per week. While applicable for many athletes, this plan is ideal for those targeting a 38+ hour finish with the Competitive plan targeting less than 38 hours.

The plan also includes customized strength workouts with YouTube videos demonstrating each workout.


This plan includes:
- Daily workout type, mileage, and intensity levels
- Recommended type of terrain and vertical
- Specifics workouts (intervals, hill intervals, tempo runs, strides, etc.) targeted to performing your best at UTMB
- Weekly notes on the training intent and goals for that week
- An intermediate race / event / time trial at 13 weeks (with the option to skip this)
- Customized strength workouts demonstrated in YouTube videos

I will also provide a spreadsheet with course notes and recommended splits for each section of the course across a range of finishing times.
