Plan Description

A customized plan for a mountainous or hilly 50K race. This is plan is ideal to get you ready for races with 4,000+ feet (1,200+ meters) of vert. It is perfect for UTMB World Series races and has been used by many athletes preparing for these events.

I am a certified running and ultrarunning coach and have coached hundreds of runners to successful 50km finishes. I am an experienced mountain and trail runner with multiple podium finishes at competitive 50K races. I have 3 finishes at UTMB, including two top 75 place finishes and most recently as the 3rd American.

This plan is mileage-based and for experienced runners with a base of 30-40 miles (50-60k) of running per week. Training volume peaks at ~70 miles (110km) per week.

The plan also includes customized strength workouts with YouTube videos demonstrating each workout.


This plan includes:
- Daily workout type, mileage, and intensity levels
- Recommended type of terrain and vertical
- Specifics workouts (intervals, hill intervals, tempo runs, strides, etc.) targeted to maximizing fitness and performance
- Weekly notes on the training intent and goals for that week
- An intermediate race / event / time trial at 13 weeks (with the option to skip this)
- Customized strength workouts demonstrated in YouTube videos
