The training program described is intended for individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Seeking to qualify for the Boston Marathon
- Goal of running strong and potentially improving their time
- Desire to incorporate speed work into their training routine
- Capable of beginning the training with an 11-mile long run
- Able to run a total of 32 miles in a week, with the longest single run being 22 miles
- Training plans include various elements such as long runs, fartleks, tempo runs, track speed workouts, and recovery days
- Willingness to run 5 days a week
- Possessing experience in running marathons, having completed at least three marathons
- Several years of running experience - Capable of meeting the Boston Marathon qualifying time for their age group (no more than 25 minutes over the qualifying time for ages 45-49)
- The training plan is customized based on the individual's Boston Marathon age qualification time.
