The training is designed for individuals who have qualified for the London Marathon in the age group of 60-64 and are looking to run strong and potentially improve their time. This training program includes speed work and is tailored for those who can begin with a 10-mile long run and progress to running 30 miles in the first week of training.
The training plan incorporates various types of runs such as long runs, fartleks, tempo runs, track speed workouts, and recovery days. The weekly long run distances range from 10 miles in the first week to a maximum of 21 miles. Participants are expected to be able to run 5 days a week and should have previous marathon running experience, including participation in more than 3 marathons.
To qualify for this training program, individuals should have several years of experience in running marathons and should have achieved a qualifying time within 25 minutes of the London Marathon age qualification time for the 60-64 age group. The training plan is specifically tailored based on the individual's London Marathon age qualification time.
