Get ready to train smarter, not harder, for the Half Distance Triathlon Western Massachusetts. With a race course offering fast swim times, scenic bike terrain, and a rolling run through Forest Park, this triathlon rewards preparation and precision. Our 44-week beginner training plan is designed to help you peak on race day—no guesswork, no fluff, just results.

Whether you're stepping into your first triathlon or returning after time away, this structured plan is tailored to build fitness gradually, with a clear roadmap to success.

✅ Phase 1: 12-Week Specific Base Training
Start strong by developing aerobic endurance, strength, and technique—especially in the swim, where this race features one of North America’s fastest 70.3 swim courses.

✅ Phase 2: 32-Week Half Distance Triathlon Build
From Week 13 onward, you’ll move into progressive training blocks focused on VO2 max intervals, tempo work, and sustained endurance. Training starts at 9.5 hours per week and gradually builds to 14 hours in peak weeks.

✅ Race-Specific Focus for Western Mass

🌊 Swim: Point-to-point in the Connecticut River (avg. 67°F) — we hone open water skills and pacing.

🚴 Bike: 56 miles of hilly but smooth roads — our plan sharpens hill climbing and smart pacing strategies.

🏃 Run: 13.1 miles through rolling terrain — master your pacing for a powerful final push.
