Plan Description
The Base Strength Training Plan is the second edition to this strength training macrocycle. The strength workouts themselves are (again) biomechanically divided. This is mainly to keep consistancy throughout the entire macrocycle, since 'push', 'pull' and 'lower body' movements are easy to follow, as well as encourages big, functional movements that use universal moter recruitment patterns that continue to help develop neurological efficiency.
As volume of this mesocycle increases (but intensity remains low) the microcycle contains eight sessions a week, consisting of:
- Three strength sessions that continue to develop the strength based rehab pactised during the first phase; the Recovery mesocycle, aiming to rebuild the durability of the muscles, ligaments and tendons.
- Four (low-intensity) Endurance-Based General Physical Preparedness operating in Zone 2 to build a solid aerobic base.
- One Strongman strength session rooted in General Physical Preparedness to improve work capacity and the body's ability to handle more training.
Finally, within this mesocycle the scheduling of the sessions is so important. This is because during your Base mesocycle you begin to perform two sessions per day, so (at first as your body adapts to this new work capacity) your recovery with be on a 'knife edge', meaning when there is no training session planned you must continue to consciously activate your parasympathetic nervous system and continue to prioritise sleep, rest and recovery.
